Coalition Members Take to Capitol Hill to Advocate for National Academies Study Recommendations
More than a dozen members of the Coalition for Pediatric Medical Research visited their House and Senate offices and key Congressional Committees to educate offices about the landmark National Academies report Strategies to Enhance Pediatric Health Research Supported by NIH and to advocate for the report’s recommendations.
The advocacy day builds on the Coalition’s longstanding work on this issue, which included successfully advocating for Congress to authorize and fund the report. The report and its recommendations were released earlier this year.
The Coalition strongly supports the recommendations put forward, including strengthening existing NIH infrastructure to better coordinate child health research across all NIH Institutes and Centers and ensuring it has the resources needed to address barriers that have limited NIH’s support of child health research.
Improving how NIH supports child health research is necessary to achieve overall goals of improving the overall health and well-being of our nation’s children and overall population since many diseases and conditions that onset in adulthood are rooted in the earliest years of life. The Coalition looks forward to continuing to work with Congress and NIH leadership to advance these recommendations.
