Coalition Applauds National Academies’ Study & Recommendations to Support Pediatric Researchers
The Coalition for Pediatric Medical Research applauds the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine for its report issued last month on the pediatric subspecialty workforce that includes an entire chapter focused on the specific challenges and needs within the pediatric physician-scientist workforce.
The report included several findings as well as recommendations, including a call to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to increase support for early-career pediatric researchers, particularly researchers from populations under-represented in the medical research workforce. These findings and recommendations align exceptionally well with the bipartisan Pediatricians Accelerate Childhood Therapies Act (S. 2345 and H.R. 47174).
The Coalition urges Congress to give full consideration to the study and recommendations and to strengthen the future of the pediatric research workforce by enacting this bipartisan legislation into law as soon as possible.
